Lost a Bet — Had to Do the Polar Plunge in My Underwear

Fantasy football league. 12 guys. We've been playing since freshman year and the stakes keep getting dumber every season.
This year's punishment for last place: polar plunge. Not a organized charity one with warming stations and EMTs. Just... the ocean. In January. In your underwear. While your friends film it.
Guess who finished last place? This guy. By three points. THREE POINTS. If Jalen Hurts had thrown one more touchdown in Week 17, I'd be the one filming instead of freezing.
The moment of regret.
We drove to the beach at 6am so nobody would be around. It was 34°F. The water was probably colder. My buddy Marcus was counting down from 10 and I swear every number took a year.
I went in up to my chest and held it for 30 seconds (that was the deal). It's hard to describe what cold water does to your brain at that temperature. Your body just screams. Every nerve is saying "GET OUT" but your pride is saying "your boys are watching."
Got out looking like a boiled lobster. Couldn't feel my legs for 20 minutes. Marcus had the audacity to say "that wasn't so bad, right?" from inside his warm jacket.
The video has 400 views on our group's private Instagram. I'm both humiliated and weirdly proud. Already planning next year's punishment — I'm thinking loser has to do karaoke at a crowded bar. Alone. Sober.

Commissioner here. For the record, the water was 38°F. I checked. And he only held it for 22 seconds, not 30. But we gave it to him because he looked like he was going to cry.

Our league's punishment is the loser has to take the SAT. Like actually register, pay the fee, show up to a high school, and take it with a bunch of 17-year-olds. The scores get shared in the group chat.

I actually do cold water swimming as a hobby and 38°F is no joke for someone unprepared. Your body constricts blood vessels to protect your core. The "can't feel your legs" thing is real — that's peripheral vasoconstriction. Glad you didn't stay in longer honestly.

Worst punishment in our league: last place has to go to a packed Starbucks and order a drink with the most embarrassing custom name possible. Our boy had to pick up a drink for "Princess Sparkle Butt." The barista yelled it out three times because he pretended not to hear.

Why is it always the ocean? My group did a polar plunge in a lake and at least a lake doesn't have waves trying to knock you over while your muscles aren't working.

Yeah the waves were the part I didn't think about. Getting knocked sideways when you can't feel anything is terrifying actually.
